Schema Play
As a schema play practitioner, I look for children's repeated patterns of behaviour (schemes) and what they are learning through it (Schemas). I seed resources and ideas into the play environment that support these interests which they are free to take or leave. Sometimes I might show them a new skill they might be interested in or lead them in a riskier activity like cookery where adult supervision is needed. I make a note of these schemes and schemas in my observations so I can see how they are progressing and to ensure I am on the right track. These observations will be shared with parents and the child through learning stories.
These pictures show one child's collections which is part of his containing scheme, he also showed a huge interest in the Supertato books. So I made a Supertato tuff tray set up with a crochet Supertato and Evil Pea along with some food containers from our junk modelling box. The aim is to encourage him to come up with his own stories through play.
